The New Pyramid is Pie. Mmmm. Pie.

My Plate replacement for the Food PyramidWell, it isn’t supposed to look like pie, but that is the first thing I think of when I look at this. My wife says this reminds her of pizza.

Its actually supposed to be a plate showing just how much of each food group you should be having each meal.

I honestly don’t know what the US Department of Agriculture’s obsession is with telling us what a healthy diet is supposed to be. They have been at this for many years and I know very few people who are actually following it to the letter.

In fact I know of a large number of groups of people who choose not to eat this way or cannot eat this way. So why is the government telling all these people they need to eat the same way?

We have thousands of people in this nation who are actually directly involved in the healthy diets of people. We have doctors, nutritionists, personal trainers etc. All these people understand the underlying truth of the matter, proper nutrition and diet is an individual thing. All people are different. What works as a diet for one person does not necessarily work for everyone.

Here we have the US government once again trying to apply a one size fits all solution to an individual problem. That is about all the government seems to be able to do. They cannot actually admit this, because it would call into question the necessity of these one size fits all agencies in the Federal Government.

Now this is not the first graphic produced by the USDH for a healthy diet. We all probably remember the original food pyramid:

This one failed to get the attention and penetration rate of the first one and was quickly forgotten by the people and the USDH itself.

So if diet and nutrition is an individual thing, determined by the person’s body, religion or person preference, why are we spending millions of US dollars trying to come up with a one size fits all solution?

I think it is time to end this needless waste and let the people decide for themselves what a good diet is. We need to stop trying to protect people from themselves. If a person wants to live a life in which they consume junk food and eventually die of heart disease, let them. That is an individual thing.
