Chapter 11 of Beginning Game Programming is our third complete game of this series. And honestly, it was probably the easiest of the 3 to make. The reason for this was all the work we did up to this point to build out our skills.
I also had a good wind behind me as I made it. Completing Unicorn Dash and the two planets examples really helped motivate me to finish this game.
In this game, you play as a Compsognathus (Compy for short) whose mission is to make it to a watering hole. Unfortunately, there are a bunch of dinosaurs much larger than it stomping down trails in the way. The game is essentially a Frogger/Crossy Road clone, but it is stil la fun game to play.
In this game, I built on a lot of previous work. The Compy moves using both keyboard and game pads. The Big dinos use screenwrap functionality we made with the Planets example. We even did more with sprite animation this time around. I gave this game a dinosaur theme for my youngest son who really likes dinosaurs.
I really don’t have much else to say about it. You can play and download the game over on itch. You can view the source code over on Github.
